Castafari is proud to announce the beginning of a new fishing service that will be offered starting in May of 2009. Starting on May 15th, I will be offering 4 hour early morning and evening trips for striped bass and bluefish. On these these trips we will be using a 24 foot Yellowfin Bayboat Skiff and a 23 foot Casco Bay Center Console. I can accommodate up to three people, but two is highly recommended. We will be departing from the same dock which the Castafari is berthed, and fishing the inshore waters around Red Brook, Onset, and Phinney's harbor. During the weeks of mid May through mid June, the local waters become inundated with big bass and bluefish following schools of herring and pogies into the harbors. There are several estuaries in this area which attract vast schools of herring, and most of us know that where there are herring, there are bass! And I'm not talking schoolies here. These local junkyard dogs in the harbors average 20 pounds! We caught a few fish in 2008 that weighed well into the 30's. Whats fascinating is that the depths we fish in are less than 10 feet! The key to this local fishery is live bait, and fishing the secret holes. We've got more than a few. The west end of the canal is loaded with great spots to fish. The trick is to keep moving, and not to remain in just one spot. And we don't have to worry about boat traffic as I always make a conscious effort to keep well away from other boats. Departure times in the morning are before sunrise and the trip is usually done by 9 am. You can still go to work if you wanted to! Every good work day should start out with some good fishing as far as I'm concerned. The evening trips will start around 5 pm and finish up around 9 pm. Hers the catch. If we don't hook fish, you don't pay...end of story. I'm that confident. The action is usually relentless anyway. We move until we find and start catching fish.

We will be employing top notch equipment and tackle. For reels we will be using the new Alutecnos spinning outfits spooled with 17 pound Sufix. For rods we will be using new St Croix Premier spinning outfits. Fishing light tackle for big fish is a blast. Its a simple and easy process. You show up to the boat. Bring a snack, coffee...or a six pack, and were fishing ten minutes later...maybe five. I will have the livewell stocked and loaded. Nothing beats feeling a big fish inhale your bait and then taking off. You'll get used to the sound of a screaming reel. These rods make each battle the fight of a lifetime. Whether its a sunrise or a sunset, the atmosphere is surreal to say the least. Theres no rough sea to worry about as we'll always be fishing in protected areas where the ocean may produce ripples.

These trips are a great way for families, friends, and couples to enjoy some of the best recreation summertime has to offer. The cost of the trips will be $550.
